It is essential that we continue to strive for greater equality, not just during Pride Month but whenever we can in this Chamber and in this House. I thank them for representing their LGBT constituents and for raising LGBT issues on the Floor of the House, in Committee and in legislation. It is more important than ever that this House reflects the society we have the privilege to represent. I also thank all the Members of this House who have bravely spoken out over the years about their sexuality, their gender and even their HIV status. ![]() It is thanks to the many who protested, marched and fought that we have many of the rights that I enjoy today. More widely, I thank everyone who has organised, supported and taken part in the many Pride events over the years. I sincerely thank the Backbench Business Committee for allowing time for this debate, and especially for ensuring that we have this important debate in the Chamber during Pride Month. ![]() It is a huge privilege to lead today’s debate, which commemorates the UK’s first Pride march in London on 1 July 1972 and all the Pride events that have taken place in the 50 years that followed. Has considered 50 years of Pride in the UK.
